My Princess has always been a good helper. Really. She has a good work ethic just like her daddy. {Notice I didn’t say like me! *Shrug*}
She actually wants to help with chores. To her at age 3 almost 4 years old, it is FUN.
We believe it is important for her to learn about chores. We want her to be contributing and feel good about contributing to the family.
So here are 10 chores that I think preschoolers can do each day:
1. Make bed: this is one chore we actually do together since it is easier for her to make our queen sized bed with help. {Yes, she is still sleeping with us!}
2. Put dirty clothes in hamper – she continually asks me every day, “Are these clothes dirty?” And my answer is always yes. She does it though and she will even help put my dirty clothes in the hamper too. {At home we have a darks and lights and she loves to separate them.}
3. Put clean clothes on all by herself. Some days my Princess wants to be babied and get help with her clothes, even resorting to a whine, “I can’t do it, mommy!” But I know better. She can do it.
4. Brush teeth – this one is difficult since I want her to have healthy teeth, but she loves brushing her own teeth so usually I let her do it first then I do it second. “Me first, mommy!”
5. Pick up toys and put them into correct places. What is It about kids, they want to take out every toy, cover the entire floor, and then leave it. So yes, this chore is essential in our home or else I would go crazy doing it 5x per day by myself.
6. Help set the table – I will freely admit we often eat at the kitchen counter, Daddy and Princess on the barstools and mommy standing across from them, but if I need to set the table, she happily does this chore. {Anything to feel like a big girl.}
7. Help load the dishwasher – she gets everything except knives. And she does a pretty good job too!
8. Help Sweep the floor – we bought her a small Cow print broom and dustpan at Ross for $7 and she loves to help sweep. {I love to let her, since I hate sweeping!}
9. Recycling – our neighborhood recycling is mixed, so putting the items in one bin under our sink is very simple.
10. Wash Hands – Through out the day especially after going to the bathroom, I like for her to make a habit of washing her hands. We sing a song, “Tops and Bottoms, Tops and Bottoms, Through The Fingers, Through The Fingers…” to the tune of Frere Jacques.

Good news! Here is a printable chore chart (updated) with the above mentioned chores. This is perfect for your preschooler. You could laminate this or put into a plastic sleeve and use a dry erase marker to use each day on the fridge.
