Since I am pregnant with my second child, I am watching the foods I am eating more carefully than normal. I am also watching the amount of calories I am intaking. I need to add about 300-350 calories to my diet, which is not too high, so I have been careful – in a healthy way.
We have eliminated most processed foods, and eat sweets sparingly now. Since the recent medical crisis in our family – we have also been incorporating more cancer fighting fruits and vegetables.
I am currently 23 weeks pregnant and have gained 10lbs, my midwife would like me to gain 10 more by the end of this pregnancy. {Unfortunately, I started out this pregnancy weighing more than I wanted to.} With my first child I gained almost 35 lbs, but I really didn’t watch my food intake, though I exercised more. What I am needing to incorporate more of now is exercise.
After the birth of my first child I decided to go on Weight Watchers. I liked this program, because of their point system. I could eat what I liked to eat, I just needed to determine their point value. If I wanted a candy bar one day, I could, but it would take up a good number of points for that day. I also incorporated exercise. I found that I didn’t need to do high cardio exercise but a good brisk walk for about 45 minutes day pushing my baby in her stroller really helped melt away that baby weight. In about two months I dropped back down to a size 6 and was very happy with the results.
After the birth of our second child in June, I will once again do Weight Watchers and walking to lose the baby weight. I will keep you all updated on how it goes.
My Tips:
- Watch your calorie intake
- Look at the portion size (most people eat more than one portion)
- Include real food like fruits and vegetables, and little to no processed foods
- Exercise (even simple walking works)
What do you do to keep your weight under control?

Great Tips! I think we all (well, most of us) battle with after-baby weight.. I actually had an easier time losing weight after each child (I have 3) everyone tells me this is backwards~ LOL but with my last- I had some complications (with my heart) and had to be induced two weeks early.. I actually Lost 15lbs while I was pregnant with her.. (a blessing in disguise??) I think just watching what you eat, and staying busy- (not hard to do with 3 little ones running around!) and getting support from other postpartum moms is a big key!
LaVonne says
Yes, Danette, my 4 year old does keep my pretty busy. I burn calories just chasing her around!

I have swapped out my pop for tea and it has helped a lot. I gained WAY to much weight with my son and he came out at 9lbs 6oz so I lost some when he was born lol. I am finally getting down lower and lower. It’s a slow process.

I quit the soda as well. Now it is water, juice and tea for me. My daughter was 7lbs 11oz and now the ultrasound is showing my second child is in the 94% for size. I might be having a big boy!

Great points. Thank You for the ideas. best wishes – I am worked off the weight of my first baby, gotta to the other one now
LaVonne says
Good luck, Lena. I wish I lost weight as fast as my husband does. He just cuts out sugar and junk food, and it melts off of him. No exercise is even required! Yuck ๐

good luck, I have not lost any of my baby weight. I always think its funny people told me as long as you breast feed you will drop the baby weight fast….. HA I say to that it did not work for me.

And I kept the weight off while I was breastfeeding, but once I quit breastfeeding, after my Princess turned 2, and then went on birth control, I gained like 15lbs! It was crazy. That was after the whole WW experience. So yes, when I got pregnant this second time, I was about 15lbs overweight! Yuck ๐

Just be healthy and make good choices- every body is different and there is no magic number when growing a baby! I gained the most with my smallest baby and the least with my biggest!
LaVonne says
Great advice Courtney! You can’t go wrong with healthy good choices!

I think there are only a few moms who watch out the foods that they take when they’re pregnant. Its not bad to eat but of ‘course you have to take care of your body since you will be having a child soon.
LaVonne says
I agree, Angel. Thanks for coming by. I appreciate the time you took to comment.
