We travel a lot. So much now that I am convinced that staycations – or travel nearby our home is the best thing for our family. The Great Wolf Lodge in Grand Mound, WA is only 3 hours from our front door. It is the best family vacation hands down. We had so much fun that we cannot wait to go back.
About the Lodging:
When we arrived at the Great Wolf Lodge, we arrived early. This is allowed. Even though your room is not available you can check in and play at the amazing water park that Great Wolf Lodge offers. When we arrived, our room was ready for us though. That was quite nice.
We had the Grand Bear Suite that had two queen beds and one king sized bed. It was so lovely. (I honestly didn’t even want to leave the room.) The temperature was a comfortable 72 in the room which was appreciated by me, since it was a hot summer day.

Dining at Great Wolf:
The Great Wolf Lodge in Grand Mound has a sweet shop, the Bear Paw Sweets & Eats, and this plate of goodies greeted us upon arrival:
My weight loss program was definitely on hold for this exciting staycation! The brownies, cookies, rice crispy snacks, and fudge were all scrumptious. We made a pact to not leave a morsel on that plate before we left.
The Great Wolf Lodge in Grand Mound offers the following dining options:

- Camp Critter Bar & Grille
- Grizzly Rob’s Bar
- Bear Paw Sweets & Eats

- Pizza Hut Express
From our room we could see the Howlin’ Tornado and my Princess could not wait any longer to head down to the waterpark. Not even the mint fudge (her personal favorite) could keep her in the room.
We all went down with our swim suits, ready for fun. Even my Little Man went in the shallow part of Slap Tail Pond. The waterpark was a warm 84 degrees so the water in Slap Tail Pond did not make our Little Man happy. My Princess on the other hand stayed at the water park for 4 hours the first day and 5 hours the second day!
The Great Wolf Lodge Waterpark includes the following attractions:
- Fort Mackenzie
- Howlin’ Tornado
- River Canyon Run
- Alberta Falls
- Chinook Cove Activity Pool
- Big Foot Pass
- Totem Towers
- Slaptail Pond
- Whooping Hollow
- Cub Paw Pool
- South Hot Springs
Besides the waterpark, my Princess really loved the Cub Club:
At Great Wolf Lodge we have a rule: Everything must be fun. Since that goes for learning too, we created Cub Club especially for your Wolf Pups. We’ve packed this kid haven with activities and crafts designed to enlighten and entertain your younger ones for hours. Plus, the hands-on programming, crafts, activities and custom souvenirs will give those cute, pruney little hands a break from the water park fun.
Though there are free crafts available in the Cub Club we purchased a frog coin bank for our Princess to paint and we played Bingo during an activity. To be honest, I really loved the Cub Club too. This is where I wanted to hang out the most.

I want to do that with them here in NC, how did you do it, can you tell?
LaVonne says
I simply contacted GWL and asked if they worked with bloggers. They offered me a discounted media rate to stay for the night. I jumped at it, since we were planning on going anyway. It was worth it. Lots of fun!

Went there last year with my much older kids and they had a blast, too. As the parent, I was impressed with the amenities of both the room and the common areas. I love how “kid friendly” this “resort” really is. There is no problem with kids walking through the halls in bathing suits and flip flops. The fitness center was “good enough”, too. Be sure you get your daughter the mani/pedi combo…it was too cute (it is in ice cream “flavors”).

We loved it too. It is fun for all ages. Truly. I wanted to do the mommy-daughter package in Scoops, but they recommended not going to the water park after. That was all my Princess wanted to do. I didn’t want to pay $70 and then have it ruined in the water so we skipped it. Maybe when she is older. 🙂
