Last week we had the opportunity to do something so fun. We drove down to Tacoma and stayed the night so we could see the How to Train Your Dragon Live Spectacular at the Tacoma Dome. Let me just say this show was awesome!
About How to Train Your Dragon Live
Have you seen the movie, How to Train Your Dragon? We really liked the movie so we knew that this live show would be enjoyed at least for the story line. What we were not expecting was such a grand experience.
The Story: In the far-away land of Berk, a young Viking named Hiccup struggles to find his place in the world. While his father and classmates only seem to care about fighting Dragons, Hiccup doesn’t quite fit in. One fateful day, Hiccup befriends an injured Dragon that he names Toothless. Together, Hiccup and Toothless establish a high-flying friendship that will change them forever – uniting Vikings and Dragons in a spectacular battle to save both their worlds.

My Review of How To Train Your Dragon Live
This show truly is spectacular. It ran for two hours with a 20 minute intermission in between. Much of the set is bare with the use of media movie style imaging on the back wall. The stage is amazing though with flying dragons and people being hoisted in the air with cables.
It is a fun show with high entertainment, and lots of fire breathing dragons. The dragons are so realistic – when the show first began my daughter was a bit scared. The boy behind us was crying too. Between the dragons and the fire that you can actually feel {at least in our seats} you are on the edge of your seat. After about 10 minutes my Princess was no longer scared of the dragons and became engrossed in the familiar story about the friendship between a boy and his dragon.
This story is also a story of tolerance, and working with and even liking or loving those who are “different” or previously hated by the community. I love this story, but the show just brings it to life before your eyes. My favorite scene hands down: the underwater scene. It is so well done, you feel like you are watching the characters struggle under water. It is amazing, no SPECTACULAR!
