Washingtonians take advantage of summer. In my opinion, it is the best time of year here. It is so beautiful and green in Western Washington and when the sky is blue and the sun is shining – there is no better place on earth. My family is blessed to live in a community that has a pool. If it hits 70 degrees (which is does most of the summer), we are at our community pool. There are also many other children in our small community so there is sure to be a playmate for my Princess on any given day.
The popular games that you can watch kids play at our pool are Marco Polo, Sharks and Minnows, and Colors. But I wanted to share with you some more unique and fun pool games for kids.
- Cannon Ball Competition – the one with the largest splash wins.
- Butterfinger Ball – coat kid’s hands with suntan lotion and see how long you can toss a beach ball around without dropping it.
- Treasure Hunt – toss many coins and see who gets the most.
- Seahorse Race – sit with your pool noodle between your legs so you’re upright and kick
- Bumper Boats – float on inner tubes and see who can knock others off their “boat”. {Establish some safety rules of course.}
- Dolphins – needs two kids. Child Two holds the Child One around waist. Child One can use arms; Child Two uses legs. Race or time kids if there isn’t more pairs.
- Long Jump Contest – which kid can jump into the pool the furthest? Measure using pool noodles.
- Raft Race – kids lay down on their inflatable rafts and race from one end of the pool to the other.
- Freeze Tag – like above water, kids who are tagged must freeze. You can get “unfreezed” when a kid swims through your legs.
- Leap Frog – two teams needed and instead of going over you must swim through your teammates legs. Race to win.
Which pool games do your kids like to play?
Do you want to know what I like to do while the kiddos are playing at the pool? I like to float on my lovely pool float.

- Graphics on mesh bed won’t peel off thanks to our heat-and-press process
The only real problem with the pool float is keeping my kids and other kids off of it. {Come on now parents, pay attention to your kids please!} It really has become the hit at our local pool. While the Princess is playing pool games with the big kids, and Mommy is floating away trying to relax, my Little Man loves playing with his Gobble Gobble Guppies pool toy.
Yum! Yum! Preschoolers can catch, count and learn their colors with SwimWays Gobble Gobble Guppies! This hungry whale has one thing on his mind and on the menu – guppies! Children squeeze the trigger to open his mouth, then try to gobble up all the little guppies as they float on the water’s surface as fast as they can. Each colorful guppy is numbered 1-5 for an added educational experience to a fun catch ’em game.
For all the best pool games and toys you must check out SwimWays. {Honestly, I really mean it.} Our local stores carry a few of the SwimWays products during the summer and we’ve loved them for years but if you visit them online you’ll find so much more. Summer isn’t over yet. Get some toys, get outside, and get active with the kids.
