This month in my son’s toddler class at church he is learning about Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem on a donkey on Palm Sunday. {Palm Sunday is the Sunday before Easter.} There is a pretend Jesus riding a large wooden donkey during the story time. The toddlers are given fake Palm branches to wave while singing, “Ho Ho Ho Hosanna, Ha Ha Hallelujah”. My Little Man LOVES it.
So this week, for our toddler craft time, I put on some great Easter music from the Cedarmont Kids, read him a quick story about Palm Sunday, and then decided to make an easy Palm Sunday craft.
I used:
- green construction paper
- pencil
- wooden popsicle sticks
- tape
Outlining a toddler’s hand is not always easy. He likes to move each finger as I run the pencil along them. But I managed to somewhat get a good handprint. I cut it out his handprint. He helped me take the stick to the back of his green handprint.
He liked swinging his “Palm” Branches and singing, “Hosanna!”. It was hard to get a still photo. I love that this is simple and keeps him entertained but also imparts an important lesson about Jesus our King.

Does your family do anything special for Palm Sunday?
I grabbed a $3 green Easter basket at my local store, used cut brown craft paper I already had in the craft closet and paid $2 for larger eggs. They can be filled with candy, stickers, homemade coupons, or anything you’d like!
