Based on The New York Times best-selling book, and recipient of the Dove Foundation seal of approval for ages 12+, SAME KIND OF DIFFERENT AS ME follows successful art dealer Ron Hall (Greg Kinnear) and his wife Debbie (Renée Zellweger), who seemingly have the perfect life.
But when their faith and family are tested, an unlikely bond with a homeless drifter (Djimon Hounsou) leads them on a remarkable journey that forges an everlasting friendship. “Loaded with surprising twists and turns” (Jim Ferguson, KGUN9 ABC Tucson), SAME KIND OF DIFFERENT AS ME shows how a simple act of kindness can change everything.

I first saw the preview for this movie while watching The Stray in the theater with Isabella. I thought it looked great and was impressed with the quality of actors in this film. Then, my husband and I watched this movie last weekend and really enjoyed it. I had not read the book, but now that I’ve seen this movie, I would like to read this book. A tear-jerker for sure, but with an amazing message of kindness. I strongly recommend watching it!
The Kindness Rocks Project
To promote the theme of kindness that is so important in the film as well as celebrate National Random Acts of Kindness Day (2/17), I was sent The Kindness Rocks Project kit to provide an unique viewing and learning experience for my family.
This Kindness Rocks kit included:
- some river rocks
- base paint
- Mod Podge outdoor sealant
- paint brushes
- acrylic pens
Isabella and I had a great time creating rocks with inspirational messages on them to help promote acts of kindness. As The Kindness Rocks Project suggests, you can “take one when you need one, share one with a friend who needs some inspiration, or leave one for another”.
Our family will leave the rocks to be found somewhere in our small town to brighten someone’s day. Isabella also made a rock for her teacher for Valentine’s Day as an act of kindness. We will be making more of these great rocks now that we have all these great supplies.
