Have you been using Flax Seed Meal? We like to sneak in Flax Seeds into our foods. Not only is it high in omega-3 fats but it is also high in fiber. Just two tablespoons of flax seed is 4 grams of fiber! One serving of flax seed contains 2400 mgs of omega-3—a great source of this plant based healthy alpha-linolenic acid.
But did you know that flax seed contains lignans? What is lignans you ask? This is a natural antioxidant and flax seeds contain 75 times more lignans than other plant foods. To get the lignans that are in 2 tablespoons of flax seed meal you would need to eat about 30 cups of fresh broccoli!
Really, we don’t have to do too much sneaking into food. Our Princess does not mind it. In fact, among other foods, we also call this one sprinkles. (When anything is called sprinkles, it must be good!)
We regularly sprinkle a bit of flax seed meal on:
- cold cereal
- yogurt
- smoothies
- pancakes
- brownies
- muffins
- oatmeal
We have even put Flax Seed in spaghetti sauce, casseroles and juices!
You can often find flax seed in the bulk section of your local grocery store. We tend to buy it when it goes on sale at Amazon.
