Yes, I am a sucker for a faith filled, family friendly movie. You know that already. A new one just came out on January 22nd – Abel’s Field, and it’s one you’ll love.
About Abel’s Field
Left motherless by tragedy and abandoned by his father, high school senior Seth McArdle faces enormous pressure as he strives to support his little sisters. At school, he endures the daily bullying of the football team. But fighting back only finds him singled out for punishment and assigned to an after-school work detail under the supervision of the reserved groundskeeper, Abel. Much to his surprise, Seth discovers that Abel may be the only one who truly understands his struggles. As dark times lure Seth toward desperate measures, the reluctant Abel may be the one person who can point him back toward the light.

My Review of Abel’s Field
I like this movie. Seth is in high school working two jobs trying to support his twin sisters and you ache for his struggle. He doesn’t have much food, no extra money, the clothes are getting worn and small, and he can’t pay the mortgage. You root for this boy and his family all the way through the movie. You want him to come out on top with his family intact.
Abel is a mysterious character in the film. You want him to help Seth and step in like a father figure the entire movie. I was disappointed with his lack of fatherly response to the situation. Though he did help a bit. You know there is some baggage and deep pain in him, but it takes almost the entire length of the movie to figure out why. I didn’t like that. It dragged out a bit too long in this regard. Seth was my favorite character by far in the film.
Often in the movie you want Seth to reach out to God or to the local pastor. He is going through some anger and pain with God due to his mother dying. I love how real the characters are in this movie and how real the pain is. I won’t let you know how it ends or what Abel’s character is all about, but you should watch this movie.
How often do we wait until there is not more options before we take things to God? Go to God right away!
I definitely recommend Abel’s Field as a family friendly movie full of hope and faith. {It might be a bit slow, but the message is so important!}
