I can clearly remember over six years ago when my Princess was born. We had her at a birth center in Northern California at about 8pm. My midwife told me I could head home once I went to the bathroom and my Princess breastfed. Easy peasy. I was heading home by 10:30 pm. It was awesome. But, when my Little Man was born, he had a difficult time latching on to feed.
Did you have a difficult time breastfeeding your children?
It was new to me. I extended breastfed my daughter until after she was two. But for some reason, my Little Man just could not get the hang of it those first few days in the hospital. After almost a full day passed without sucessful latching (and quite a few tears from both of us), the nurse brought me some formula. I hesitated for one second. But knowing he needed some nutrition, I agreed.
And you know what? That’s ok. Whether you breastfeed exclusively, supplement with formula, or formula feed only – it’s ok, moms. Love those kiddos, that is what matters most.

I had to do the same thing with my youngest son because he simply didn’t seem satisfied with colostrum only. After we left the hospital everything was smooth sailing and I didn’t have to give him any more formula. I am a firm supporter of breastfeeding but I totally understand when a mom simply can’t or doesn’t want to breastfeed. Their baby still has to eat and formula is made for this reason.

Thanks, Christy. My very close friend wanted to breast feed so badly. Even had a lactation consultant visit her, but after two weeks they had to switch to formula. She tried to pump and nothing seemed to come out or it would take an hour for less than 4 oz. So, yes there are people who can’t breastfeed. I am thankful, I was not one of those people. My almost 23 month old is still breast feeding and he must be going through a growth spurt! I actually have a dried and cracked nipple this week due to lots of “milkies”. Not fun…

I used formula for both my kids but my grand kids are all breast fed. Your baby is a little cutie. My 5th grand baby was just born this morning and I think he is going to be breast fed too.
