One thing my daughter loves about the summer in Washington is the chance to go backyard camping. I know, vacations are awesome and trips to the local Six Flags water park are beyond fun. But the simple family activities like a movie night, s’mores over a fire, game night and backyard camping honestly make her summer great. Those great mellow family times are so exciting for us all. I know she will cherish them as she gets older. {I can remember when I camped out back with my own dad when I was young. I loved it.}
Do you have a great childhood memory?
My daughter loved sleeping in the tent on our back deck so much this weekend that she asked to do it again last night. I don’t know when she is going to want to come back to her bunk bed! Here’s what she loves about backyard camping: snacks, games, and movies inside the tent. She even let daddy pick the movies. But she choose the games. The snacks were picked by mommy! What six year old wouldn’t want a backyard campout?
Best part of backyard camping in my opinion? Waking up and being able to walk into the house to get a cuppa with tasty Coffee-mate Vanilla creamer.
What’s great about vanilla is that it is familiar and exciting – like backyard camping. I mean camping is always fun for kids. But to do it in the backyard? So much easier! I am a huge fan of vanilla and I don’t believe that vanilla is ever “boring”. In fact, you can now get my favorite flavor in two varieties of Coffee-mate creamer – French Vanilla and Classic Vanilla. My personal favorite is Classic Vanilla – the sweet vanilla bean flavor with notes of marshmallow and icing. So tasty!

I really wanted to go camping with the boys this summer but my husband has never done it in years so he’s nervous I think. I should just go in the backyard! I think I’m going to start planning.

Yes, back yard camping is a great place to start! Plus, with all the comforts of home right nearby? Perfect!
Raijean says
Yes, love my family but momma needs her coffee!

Right?!!! I wholeheartedly agree.

I need my coffee (uh a few times a day) and I always use the fat free vanilla creamer from Coffee-Mate. Its a must!

For a few more calories I like the regular version. Both Classic Vanilla and French Vanilla – so tasty!

we’re not ready for backyard camping yet, but boy does it look fun to do. nothing better than a good cup of coffee either. I have lots of memories from childhood, but you know…camping in the back is not one of them….ummmm. We did do this at a friend’s house, but her dad made up come in after the boys find out and come over!!!

I loved backyard camping when I was younger. We had a large yard and it was fenced in so no one came into the yard.

This is one of my husband’s favorite summer activity with the kids. My older two don’t do it anymore, but it’s special for my 8 year old, we love making these memories!

Awww. it is heartbreaking to see kids get older and get “too big” for family stuff. I know it is inevitable though. That is why I keep reminding myself to stop going crazy with the littles and just enjoy the moments. They’ll be gone before I know it.

We have not tired backyard camping yet, but I want to . It will have to wait until October since FL is just a wee to hot at the moment.
LaVonne says
Ha! I can’t imagine living in FL. I am so used to the moderate climate in Western Washington. We worry if it will be warm enough on some summer nights. LOL!

That sounds like my kind of camping! 🙂

We LOVE to camp, backyard, woods, at amusement parks, anywhere. In the winter we even bring it indoors:)

We’re going camping this weekend and Mykl already asked me if we’re packing the Keurig so we can have coffee in the morning!
LaVonne says
My kind of camping for sure, Jen! We have a Keurig at home and one in the RV too!

I would love to take my kids camping. I am not sure what happened to my tent. It’s too small for the entire family. I would have to get some air mattresses for me and my husband so we could actually sleep comfortably.
LaVonne says
Our tent is a “4 person” tent but there is no way we all fit. So we need to upgrade too! The Little Man doesn’t want to stay in all night so he just goes in for part of the movie and then we go to bed inside. That’s the great thing about backyard camping!

I love that your daughter appreciates and looks forward to simple family activities! Those are where real memories are made! I cherish those simple times with my family, probably because I so many treasured memories of my childhood — just being with my grandparents and cousins.. whether at home or on the ranch. Those will remain engraved in my heart forever 🙂

(Backyard Camping) When all my children were younger we use to camp out in our backyard every now and then. Otherwise we were always at the huge lake in Texas every weekend.
Heather @OurKidsMom says
We used to tent camp, but I’m such a whiner now that I’m older… I prefer glamping. I should set the tent up in the backyard and play with the kids and then we can come inside and sleep in our beds 🙂
LaVonne says
Now that we have an RV I am pretty spoiled too. But backyard camping is nice ’cause I can go in to go potty and to wake up to coffee in my own kitchen with Coffee-mate 🙂

When I was growing up, my brothers and I had a backyard fort with 2 stories where we could just hang out or sleep in during the summer. It was so much fun and I remember having friends over all of the time to sleep in the fort.
