I grew up driving an hour north, bypassing several churches, to attend a small church on a neighboring Native American reservation. With less than 30 people in attendance, it was the church where I learned about who God was, how much He loves me, and how He changes lives. It was also the church I decided to be baptized in when I was 14.
Now, my husband is overseeing outreach efforts of about 100 churches here in Western Washington. He speaks at a different church almost every week. Instead of bringing my kids to various churches each week, where they don’t know anyone, I have been making the one hour drive north to that tiny church where my Christian journey began.

My mom’s best friend – who I lovingly refer to as Aunt Kathy – is in charge of children’s ministry, and she is so necessary. Vital to the church in fact. You see, every week the Native kids who live nearby come for songs, a story, crafts, a video, and a huge weekly potluck meal. It is a huge outreach effort and the kids faithfully come each week. Many of the kids have parents who are struggling with addiction, most of the kids live in poverty.
I am seriously thankful that I am a Family Christian blogger. I was sent $50 to buy some things for my favorite church’s children’s ministry department. I had a great time stretching that $50 and deciding what to get. This is why I love this job — blogging is time consuming, but so rewarding.
I visited our local Family Christian with my kids and we had a lot of fun shopping. It took a little while, because I wanted to stretch that $50 as far as I could. Thankfully, the store has a kid’s section which kept my son occupied. My Princess and I were able to search all the shelves to find some great products. We not only shopped in the kids section but also visited the Children’s Ministry section. We found:
- Velvet Posters for craft time
- Wipeable Bible Story Book
- Two card games for when the kids need something to do with extra time
- Pencil books for prizes
- Four VeggieTales movies
When I brought the bag of fun items to church this past weekend, Aunt Kathy was so excited to have some new supplies. {My Princess was too!}
The first thing they opened for craft time was the velvet posters. My Princess will take her time working on it and hang it on her wall in the bedroom. I am thankful that Family Christian carries quality products for children’s ministry!
You can find all these products and more on FamilyChristian.com or in store at Family Christian.

Disclosure: I was sent a gift certificate to purchase items for my little church on the reservation. I was compensated for this post. My love for Family Christian and my opinions are mine alone.

Children’s ministry is so vital!! Looks like you found some wonderful resources to give. That’s awesome!
I spent some time on a reservation in MN. It is such a special ministry to share the love of God with the First Nation peoples.

You got a lot for $50! I bet my kids’ Sunday School teachers would enjoy a package from Family Christian. I have a couple of certificates to use; I think I’ll spoil them a little bit.

I did do well, didn’t I, Dede? The teacher was so happy. I will have to do it again for her. They don’t have a large budget so I like to do it too!

Thank you for sharing your story with us! I don’t think we sometimes realize how important it is to take the spiritual lives of our children seriously. This is a great reminder!
