Part of our jobs as parents is to teach our kids how to work for the things they want in life. Kids can be hard headed sometimes so it’s best to start teaching them these lessons early in life. If your kids are looking to start earning their own money or if you’re simply looking for a way to help them learn, these 20 ways for kids to earn cash are the perfect place to start!
- Babysitting – Older teens make fantastic babysitters. If your teen wants to start sitting as a side business, make sure that they have plenty of character references so that parents will feel comfortable hiring them.
- Dog Wash – Print off some flyers, give your child a wash tub and some dog shampoo and let them start their own dog washing business.
- Lawn Care – Just about everyone needs lawn care at some point and doing that work is a fantastic way for your kiddo to earn. Older tweens and teens can mow, rake and weed eat to earn their pocket money.
- Tutoring – If your student excels in a specific subject, why shouldn’t they make a few bucks off of their knowledge! Tutors are in high demand and can make a very nice hourly wage!
- House Cleaning – Pass the mop and bucket and let your child start their own cleaning business! The great thing about this type of business is that it could lead to a larger income and company once they become an adult!
- Fence Painting – Painting, unless you’re talking about full house painting, is generally pretty easy work and teens are quite capable of doing it. Help them pick up the supplies they’ll need then turn them loose to advertise.
- Snow Shoveling – Winter got you buried? That’s the perfect time for your child to earn some extra cash! If they have their driver’s license and a truck, they could even attach a plow to the front of it to make even more money!
- Christmas Decorating – “It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…” and your kids can make money helping people set up their outside Christmas decorations!
- Mom Assistant – Moms are busy, busy people and sometimes? They’ll hire a teen to go grocery shopping, cook meals and do light cleaning.
- Golf Course Clean Up – Do you have a golf course nearby? Let your teen work for them picking up the golf balls that have gone astray.
- Pet Sitting – The majority of pet owners don’t like putting their pets into a kennel when they go on vacation. This could work in your child’s favor! Pet sitting usually involves taking the animal for walks, cleaning up after them, feeding and watering them and making sure they’re socialized while the owners are gone.
- Dog Walker – Along the lines of pet sitting, some dog owners just don’t have the time or aren’t physically able to walk their dogs. Your child can earn some extra cash by helping them out.
- Car Wash – Commercial car washes are super expensive. Let your kids turn the driveway into their own on Saturday afternoons to earn their extra cash.
- Photo Editing – In the world of tech skills, your teen is probably more capable than you are. If photo editing is on their list of skills, Fiverr is a great place for them to pick up some extra cash for editing photos.
- You Tube Video Star – Here’s another one for tech savvy kids. YouTube kid stars have skyrocketed in the last few years. Some to the point of making hundreds of thousands per month in income.
- Blog – Does your child have a blog? If so, they could be earning money through affiliate networks or ad units.
- Farmers Market – If your kids love to be outside and have a green thumb, growing fresh produce then selling at the farmers market is a great way to help others eat better and make some cash!
- Face Painting – Face painting isn’t just for clowns anymore! Artistically inclined kids can earn their own money by putting their talent to work!
- Personal Assistant – Older teens could do work for small businesses as a personal assistant. They can answer phones and reply to general emails, make copies, do light filing and more.
- Craft Shows – Along the lines of a Farmer’s Market, teens and kids that create crafty products can sell them at a craft show. Products like change purses, wallets, hair bows and more all do very well at these types of shows.
It can be hard for kids to figure out what type of work they want to do to earn money, but with a little creativity, they’ll be earning their own cash in no time!
