If there has been one skincare phenomena that has continued to shine in the cosmetics industry, it is without a doubt BB and CC Creams. But with two different formulations, and so many options to choose from in each, which particular letter duo should you choose? Today we are going to go over the differences between the two in an effort to help you decide which formula you should go with.
BB Cream Spotlight
You will find BB Creams everywhere, from your local drugstore, to your favorite department store, to popular online retailers like www.skincarebyalana.com. But more important than you access to them, is whether or not it is something you would love.
So, what exactly is a BB Cream?
A BB Cream differs from your typical tinted moisturizer/liquid foundation in that it fulfills multiple jobs in one. It is supposed to act as your primer, moisturizer, sunscreen, foundation, and concealer all in one, meaning a more streamlined beauty routine. Essentially, it breaks down your post-cleansing routine by allowing you to use one product as opposed to say, five or six.
As if choosing between a BB and a CC cream wasn’t hard enough, there are a number of options within each subcategory. You can find formulas based on skin type (oily/combo or normal/dry), you can find a variety of skin tones in some lines, and more generic options (light/medium, or medium/dark in others), and formulations that work for specific skin care concerns (aging, hyperpigmentation, acne, etc.).
CC Cream Spotlight
What is a CC Cream?
CC Creams came along after BB’s proved their popularity. These are known primarily for their “Color Correcting” abilities (hence, the CC), meaning they work to mask discolorations on the skin. CC Creams typically work to deliver more coverage than your typical BB Cream, but it really depends on which brand you are purchasing from.
Much like BB Creams, you will find a wealth of options amongst CC Creams. If you are looking for a healthy CC Cream option, that will work to deliver coverage, SPF protection, serious color correcting effects, and anti-aging benefits, the Osmosis CC Cream is a fabulous option!
Battle of the Formulas
When it boils down to selecting a formulation (BB vs. CC), it is important to consider your personal preferences. In all honesty, many BB and CC cream formulas are very similar, with slight benefits here and there. It is important to research products to see if they fulfill the particular benefits you seek, and it is even more important to give each considered formula a test run. What works for one individual will not necessarily work for you, and vice versa!
Testing Tips
When it comes to testing your BB and CC Cream options, it is important to do so in a safe manner. Used sealed tester packets whenever possible, as store testers do run the risk of bacteria and infection.
Should you decide to allow a beauty consultant to test a product on you in-store, be sure that the product and brushes have been properly and thoroughly disinfected, and utilize a test past (as opposed to allowing the beauty consultant to apply product to your entire face). This will allow you to try the product without running the risk of irritation on your entire face.

Great job explaining the difference between bb and cc cream. I stand a better chance of getting a product I will continue to use if I know what I need to shop for…

Thanks for the break down. I think a BB would work best for me.
