My kids love making obstacle course races in our backyard. They’ve been doing it for the last few years. They will pull outdoor toys from the garage and set them up. They grab the tablet, turn the stop watch feature on, and try to be the fastest.
An obstacle course race is a great outdoor activity for kids. Do you remember being sent outside, all the time, when you were a kid? I know I do. Now that we are finally starting to get Spring weather, I am giving my kids no choice. They must go outside.

Kids Obstacle Course Ideas
You can use the things you have on hand to make your own backyard obstacle course for kids. Use things like:
- back yard playground structure
- cones
- jump rope
- balls
- crawl-thru tents
What do you have laying around that’d be great for the kids to use to make their own obstacle course?
My kids had things to run around, jump over, climb through, climb up and slide down in their backyard obstacle course last week. And it kept them busy, outside, and moving — just how I like it.

My kids LOVE their Quads of Fun Junction Set. We had an older tent from our local consignment store that the kids take out each Spring, but it was just one tunnel. Four tunnels that are easy to set up? Well, let’s just say, this is going to be the big hit this Spring.

Oh my gosh, that is super adorable! That’s a fun way to play outside with the kids. My kids would’ve loved having those to run/crawl through!
These look fun. Miss having littles. Now mine are all video games, hanging out with friends around the fire pit, and pool time. They loved stuff like this when they were tiny. Now I’m feeling nostalgic lol.
Oh wow! Your house looks so fun! I want to join in the obstacle course too! 🙂 Even my younger ones are now too big for something like this. I miss this age and stage though! Enjoy it while it lasts and cherish every moment!
