Our family got an iPad for Christmas. We choose to purchase this for our daughter to use for homeschool and we have put some great educational apps on it. It always amazes me to see her easily navigating her way around an iPad. We live in such technologically advanced times. Amazing!
Isabella’s Top Ten Preschool Apps:
- Mahjong Safari – this is included in the free Pogo Games app. She loves matching the animals and working together on this game.
- Cut the Rope Lite – this free version has plenty of games for my 4 year old to play; and watching her try to figure out where to cut the rope is kind of fun.
- Angry Birds HD Free – what is it about this game that my 4 year old and husband both like to play? Free as well!
- Fruit Ninja Lite – quickly cutting fruit, my Princess is actually pretty good at this game. Plus, it is also free.
- Dot to Dot Numbers Lite – within the last few months she has really enjoyed dot to dot. So this free app is great for us!
- Four in a Row Free – just like Connect Four, we are still learning how to play this game together. She is getting better though.
- Clicky Sticky – at $1.99, my Princess loves placing stickers on the people and scenes. You can create so many things.
- Easy Bake Cupcakes – this freebie has been her big favorite. She loves decorating the cupcakes over and over again.
- Team Umizoomi Math – I paid $4.99 for this app, the most I ever spent, but I wanted to do more numbers with my Princess. She knows her letters (upper and lower case), colors, and shapes, but we need to work more on numbers and it even introduces simple math.
- ABC Tracer Free – this app provides uppercase, lowercase, and numbers. I might actually get the $1.99 version soon. We are still practicing our lower case and numbers quite a bit. With sounds and easy to use features, we recommend this one.
We have so many more apps on our iPad. If they are free, I usually get them for her to try out. {She is beginning to expect a new one each day. I need to get her to be content with the 15-20 she already has!}
Does your family have any favorite apps you can recommend?
I am looking for phonics apps next, if you know of any great ones, I’d love to hear about them in the comments below.

My daughter loves Juno Shush book and dr Suess interactive books (she’s under 2). I love fruit ninja on the Kinect!

I need to find some books for my daughter actually. I have a few Kindle Freebies for her, but they aren’t that great. I will check out Dr. Suess.
Thanks!

This is great! I’ll have to pass it on to my friends who have preschoolers 🙂 Though I think my son (still an infant) may enjoy some of the interactive books.
LaVonne says
Thanks! I still need to look at more books too.

We’ve bought the upgraded versions of Angry Birds and Fruit Ninja; We got our iPad last summer though so they’ve had time to perfect the free versions..
My boys absolutely love the “Monster at the End of this Book” app from Sesame Street and I agree with Darcy that the Dr. Seuss books are good too.
For really little ones I found some fisher price downloads that are free and cute – animals, numbers and a body parts one…
LaVonne says
Heather I will have to check out that Sesame Street app and the Fischer Price ones. I am so happy for some more ideas! Thanks 🙂

Doodle Dandy is a free drawing app that lets you draw with various degrees of symmetry (so it makes fancy mandala/spin-art type patterns, or you can set it to 1 degree and just draw), colors, and pen widths. My whole family loves it for just doodling!
LaVonne says
Becca, my 4 year old loves to draw and doodle too. I will definitely want to check that out. Thanks!
Christine @ Why We Love Green says
We just downloaded the cupcake game thanks to this list! We also love an app called Kid Mode. It’s really cool because it can actually “contain” any other apps you have, but also keeps your child in the game-area. They can’t exit and delete your contacts or anything like that! Thanks for linking up at the Super Sunday Stumble at Why We Love Green! I’ve stumbled and +1ed this post!

Thanks, Christine. I will check out Kid Mode. I appreciate that you stumbled my post. 🙂
