As you all know, we bought a 5th wheel travel trailer. our family of four will be staying in it for my husband’s work. Which means anywhere from six weeks to 3 months at a time {depending on his work} we will live in a 32 foot RV. Wow!
We’ve bee shopping for household items in store and online. To be honest, shopping for the trailer has been the funnest part. That’s not rocket science though – shopping is pretty fun. I’ve been thinking about kitchen items, bedding, organizational items, and even ways of staying warm in the RV.
Even though it is two weeks until Spring the nights here in Western Washington are still getting pretty cold. Plus, honestly, we like to try to save on propane and electricity.
So here are 10 ways of staying warm in a RV:
- Maintain Furnace (filter, propane, temperature)
- Maintain Seals Around Windows, Doors, and Slides
- Draft Dodger Under Front Door
- Heavier Window Treatments
- Insulated Water Hose Line
- Throw Rugs
- Electric Blanket
- Throw Blankets
- Dress Warmly
- Space Heater
Do you have an RV? How do you stay warm?

We used this NewAir space heater when we were getting our RV ready for travel our driveway. We plugged in the RV and cleaned and stocked it but didn’t want to run our propane down by using the furnace. This space heater was the perfect thing to use for our job of getting the RV ready.
This baseboard heater has a sleek design that enables us to put it out of the way and still feel the effects of the warmth. You just need to pull this heater out of the box and it is ready to use. By using the center dial as both a button and a dial you can set this heater to your preferred setting. I like that this heater is portable and we can easily move it from the travel trailer to inside the home. {In fact, I used this heater yesterday when my Little Man was sick in our bedroom.}
I like that this fits in small spaces (like our trailer) and heats up to 250 square feet. That is perfect for our trailer or our bedroom. I’m also grateful that the heating element is covered by grating. My Little Man loves putting small toys and fingers inside baseboard heaters (scary!). One thing I don’t like is that it gets hot to touch after prolonged use. With young children, a heater that stays cool to touch is necessary. So we are only using this heater when we can constantly supervise the children around it.
