Can I take a moment to brag?
Let me have this Mommy Moment please!
My Princess does not wear pull ups all day at home. She goes #1 and #2 in the toilet. We are still working on nighttime and time outside of the house. But this is BIG.
Top Ten Potty Training Tips:
#1. Don’t worry! You don’t see too many “big” kids in diapers. Your child will get it.
#2. Don’t push. It does not matter how aggressive you are. Your child will go when they want to go. Incentives don’t really work that well. Though it does feel good to be doing “something”.
#3. Give lots of praise. They don’t “need” M&Ms or Mike and Ikes, they do need praise though. Don’t make your child feel bad for being a late potty trainer.
#4. Buy cheap underwear. Unless you want to wash the poopy accidents, you won’t feel bad throwing away that pair of .50 cents underwear.
#5. Let them wear the big underwear at home. Who cares if there are a couple accidents in your home?
#6. Pull-ups at night is just fine. Who wants a pool of pee in their family bed? Take it from me, it is not fun to wake up to pee on your back in the middle of the night.
#7. Start slowly with leaving the house in big kid underwear. We are still working on this one. The first time we did it, she had an accident. The second time? Success!
#8. Flushable wipes. I really like using these when she goes potty on the toilet. I feel like she is staying much cleaner. We like to use them now too! Was that TMI? LOL.
#9. Don’t compare your child to other children. All children are different. Just because your friend’s child was potty trained at 18 months does not make your child “slow” or you a “bad” parent.
#10. Did I mention use lots of praise? Praise them! My Princess love when I make a big deal, sing, give her a high five, dance, and whoop. She loves it more than the candy. And yes, we do use candy still.
